Jesus called each of us at our baptism to take up his Great Commission and proclaim His saving love to everyone we meet. But only if we act like Christ in everyday moments will others take Christianity seriously again.
“Go, then, to all peoples everywhere and make them my disciples”. Matthew 28:19
It can be overwhelming just how many relatives, friends, and co-workers lack friendship with the Redeemer. The world won’t change overnight, but our job is a lot easier; to help restore friendship between Christ and just ONE person in our lives. Don’t be fooled when people assert they can be very happy without Jesus. Despair, fear, and sin are destroying our society. God has given you a task only you can accomplish, with His grace.
“Always be ready to give an explanation to anyone who asks you for a reason for your hope.” 1 Peter 3:15
Do others know you are Catholic? We don’t only express our faith at Mass or in prayer when the door is closed. Jesus wants us to be Catholic the other six days of the week. We imitate Him at the grocery store, the hospital, the bank, when disciplining our children, attending a party, arguing with a family member, on our daily commute, at the DMV, paying bills, dealing with insurance over the phone, and every other mundane moment in life. Are you prepared to proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ with the next person you meet?
“You are the salt of the earth” Matthew 5:13
Taking Up the Call is a serious response to the Great Commission. You will share mistakes and failures. You will laugh and cry. You will say ‘I don’t know’. You will say it’s hard. You will say it’s worth it. Your example will act as an ever-present invitation to others to begin or renew their relationship with Him who became one of us and calls us to Himself. The Archdiocese of Omaha will share stories and tips and inspiration to help you step into the mission fields confident of how you can proclaim the Gospel. Northeast Nebraska needs Catholics like you to Take Up the Call as clergy and lay leaders across the Archdiocese of Omaha work to equip our parishes to become missional communities. Will you Take Up the Call?
“You are like light for the whole world.” Matthew 5:14-15
