It’s time for the Original South O festival! Sts. Peter and Paul will continue its 109-year tradition of celebrating summer by hosting its annual ethnic festival, “The Greatest Festival in Town.”

During its first century, this event grew to be one of the largest of the local church festivals, and the tradition continues into its second century. This fantastic summer festival features a MegaBucks $5,000 grand prize drawing, a melting pot of South Omaha's favorite ethnic foods, beer, rides, prizes, and live music.

The Sts. Peter and Paul parish festival, the city’s oldest, largest and longest-running annual church Festival, is on Sunday, August 2, from noon - 8:00 p.m. on the parish grounds at 36th & “X” Street, Omaha, NE.

A single drawing for $5,000, a second prize of $500, and additional $100 prizes headline Omaha’s greatest summer church festival. The continuous live music by the Ken Janak Orchestra, the Mark Vyhldal Orchestra, and Blanford will provide a full day of great entertainment. Other drawings include handmade quilts and afghans, meat raffles, “pickles,” along with numerous rides, and games for children and the entire family.

Everyone is invited to bring hearty appetites to savor delicious ethnic foods, including Sts. Peter and Paul’s famous “sarma” (cabbage rolls), Italian sausage and peppers, Polish sausage, BBQ lamb sandwiches, tacos, and desserts from every corner of the world!

Reflection shared by Anthony Gentile and others: Who am I and why am I here and how can I more fully realize that I am part of God’s family? How can I better achieve my purpose in life to find God’s deepest purpose for me?

True love is not a feeling, but it is the gift of self to whomever is around us. We were created for love and to love God and those He has placed in our path. Also included, absence of a father’s presence in a family and laying that loss on the altar during each Mass. Additionally, reflection that all of us were created to fill a purpose in this world and to do something good.

This hour includes the recitation of the Rosary and availability of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Retrouvaille offers a lifeline of hope and healing for marriages.

Retrouvaille is an international ministry of couples dedicated to serving married couples.

We are a Christian ministry, supported by clergy, in which couples help couples. Rooted in Catholic tradition, the program welcomes couples of all faiths or no faith.

We focus on improving communication and strengthening marriages, helping couples reconnect and rediscover their love.

Our 3-phase program starts with a weekend experience, followed by 12 post-weekend sessions and ongoing monthly small group enrichment meetings.

The weekend begins Aug. 7 at 8 p.m. and ends Aug. 9 at 4 p.m.

The EPS Auxiliary warmly invites you the the 16th annual Breakfast for Life.

Essential Pregnancy Services is an Omaha-area non-profit dedicated to supporting women before, during and after pregnancy. The services we provide include pregnancy testing, 1st-trimester ultrasound scans, STI screening and treatment, nurse consults, licensed counseling, case management, parenting education and material support.

Our services are all offered free of charge. Breakfast for Life is one of the events that helps support our mission.

We are privileged to pray with individuals and families seeking the intercession of St. Peregrine, the patron saint of those dealing with cancer. A Mass is celebrated for those who are ill and for their loved ones the third Saturday of each month at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Our Lady of Sorrows Convent in Omaha, Nebraska.

Three times a year, in January, May and September, the sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is included in the liturgy. In May, the month of the feast of St. Peregrine, we offer a special morning program along with the liturgy. At the November Mass, there is a special remembrance of those enrolled in the program who have died within the year.

Thousands of people throughout the world have found comfort and support through enrollment in our St. Peregrine Prayer Community. Persons enrolled in this program are remembered in the daily prayer of the Sisters and in the monthly St. Peregrine Mass. Those enrolled receive a medal of St. Peregrine, an enrollment card, and other prayer cards, “Prayer in Difficult Times” and  “Prayer to St. Peregrine”. We invite you to enroll yourself or a loved one in this program. You can do so on the Servants of Mary website at www.osms.org

On Sunday, Aug. 16, fresh, handmade tamales and pupusas will be sold after Masses at Immaculate Conception Church, 2708 South 24th Street in Omaha. Sales will benefit Rachel's Vineyard, a post-abortion healing ministry which offers weekend retreats for anyone hurting after an abortion.

The food items will be sold in the gym and are $3 each or $30 for a dozen. Monetary donations will be accepted at the sale or can be sent to Rachel's Vineyard Nebraska, Tami Coil, treasurer, S. 1152 Platte Shore Drive, Fremont, NE 68025.

 

 

On the third Sunday of the month, we coordinate charitable work and support the spiritual growth of our members.

Helping neighbors in need — Members discuss requests for assistance such as rent, utilities, food, transportation, or household items, and decide how to respond.

Reporting on visits and aid — Volunteers share updates from home visits or outreach efforts while respecting people’s privacy and dignity.
Spiritual reflection — Meetings often begin and end with prayer and may include a short reflection tied to Catholic faith and service.

Welcome to the St. Stanislaus Catholic Church neighborhood at 41st & J Streets from noon-7pm on Sunday August 16 for the church's annual Polish Festival, a perennial "Best of Omaha" winner.

Dozens of volunteers worked all summer creating over 15,000 handmade pierogi (a favorite Polish dumpling filled with kraut, potato, or sweet cheese). In addition, the menu features golabki (cabbage rolls), Polish sausage, hot dogs, burgers and Sloppy Joe's, and desserts.

Polka bands will play live dance music throughout the day. Popular attractions include the grocery booth, cake walk, children's rides, Pik-a-Tic, and raffles. The Serra Club of West Omaha invites you to join us for a special Rosary for Vocations followed by a Holy Mass on Monday, August 17, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 5801 Oak Hills Drive in Omaha to pray for an increase in vocations to the priesthood and consecrated religious life within the Archdiocese of Omaha.

The Rosary will begin at 5:00 PM and Mass is at 5:30 PM. Mass will be celebrated by Archbishop Emeritus George Lucas and concelebrated by Rev. Will Targy, assisted by Deacon Chris Hansen and seminarians Kyle Snodgrass, Max Brown, and Peter Ginn.

After Mass, join us in the Parish Center for a reception where Father Targy will speak about My Vocation Story and Reflections on My First Year of the Priesthood. Enjoy heavy hors ‘d oeuvres, beer, wine, and cake. All are welcome!

Join the Gretna Knights of Columbus on Sunday, August 23, at The Cloisters on the Platte, 23332 Fishery Road in Gretna, for an elegant evening of faith, fellowship, and fine dining – all supporting the Holy Family Shrine!

The evening will begin with Mass, followed by a Social Hour with complimentary beer and wine, and a chef-curated gourmet dinner.

Gates open at 4:30 PM, with shuttle service provided. Mass is at 5:00 PM, followed by the reception. Dinner seating and a short program begin at 7:00 PM. Dietary accommodations are available. Limited to 80 guests.

Funds will support the Holy Family Shrine as it celebrates 25 years. Here are some current needs: Way of the Cross Signage and Installation, Bi-lingual Signage and Spiritual Materials, Expansion of Visitor Center and Gift Shop, and On-going maintenance.
