CathedralFest, a lively three-day festival in Midtown Omaha, is set to kick off with an evening of beer, chili, and football. On Friday night October 3rd, under the Big Top tent on the campus of Saint Cecilia Cathedral, the Knights of Columbus host “Football Friday Knight.”
This community watch party will a feature the 7th Annual CathedralFest Brew-Off, a fun beer tasting event with dozens of local craft ales and seltzers in friendly competition, and a competitive chili cooking contest, featuring roasters full of home-cooked chili.
The adults-only night begins at 6:30 PM and promises a lively atmosphere as attendees can sample a variety of craft beers from local breweries and taste chili entries from some of Omaha’s best amateur chefs. The evening will be a perfect prelude to the full weekend of family-friendly activities, and the delicious food court that CathedralFest is known for.
"We are thrilled to host the Brew-Off and Chili Contest at CathedralFest again this year," said Grand Knight Kevin Vaughan, a Knights of Columbus spokesperson. "It's a great way to start the festivities and offer a fun, adult-focused event before the main festival gets underway on Saturday morning. We're expecting a good crowd and fantastic entries in both contests."
The CathedralFest Brew-Off and Chili Cookoff will be held under the Big Top tent, rain or shine. Tickets are available for purchase at the door. All proceeds from the event will support Saint Cecilia Cathedral parish ministries.
CathedralFest is an annual three-day festival (October 3rd, 4th, and 5th) held in Midtown Omaha, celebrating Saint Cecilia Parish and the surrounding community. The festival offers a wide range of activities for all ages, including the annual Blessing of the Animals on the steps of the Cathedral, a Color Fun Run, a Pancake Feed, a soccer tournament, Omaha’s biggest outdoor beer garden, an all-class reunion for alumni of Cathedral High School and Grade School, a spaghetti dinner and street dance under the Big Top, a raffle, inflatables and rides, carnival games, a variety of food vendors, the always exciting Wheel ‘O’ Meat, a Silent Auction, and the greatest garage sale in town, the White Elephant Sale.
Liturgical activities over the weekend will include a special Eucharistic Adoration event on Friday afternoon, Mass on Saturday at 5:30 PM featuring a special Alumni Choir, and Mass at 10:30 AM Sunday celebrated by Archbishop Michael McGovern.
