Croise Spiritual Journey for Men

7:00pm - 8:00pm
Croise is a new approach to teach men to pray, set goals and take action to express their faith in ways which opens their minds and strengthen their resolve to change the world they live in. It is a time in history when our original faith must be reignited, understood and lived with compelling passion by men. The confusion of today must be used to clearly define who Jesus Christ is for the world. Our premier Holy Hour will use magnificent music, time tested historical writings, preaching prayer, ingenious use of technology and a lightning demonstration of the French defensive fencing move Croise (kwaa-zay).

All men over 18 are welcome to Croise every third Monday of the month at St. Cecilia's.

Feast of the Ascension (Holy Day of Obligation)

Honoring our Veterans

2:00pm - 2:45pm
Courageous, patriotic, devoted, honorable, selfless, brave, strong, resilient and dedicated are the words that describe the 47 US Military Veterans who will be saluted at “Honoring Our Veterans” at New Cassel Retirement Center. They are our all American heroes! These 47 men and women defended our country and provided each of us our freedom. On this special day, we all come together to say ‘thank you!” From the youngest to the oldest, we all owe our veterans more than we could ever afford to give, at least we can say “thank you” and give them a very special day!
Our event will encompass posting of the colors, a guest speaker, a thank you to our veterans and spouses of veterans, the playing of Taps and refreshments for our guests. This year we welcome Steve Jordon, retired Omaha World-Herald Reporter and Editor, as our guest speaker. Steve was born in Parkersburg, West Virginia and lived in Michigan, Okinawa and Kansas with his Air Force family before landing in Bellevue, Nebraska where his father, Colonel Ken Jordon, was stationed three times with the US Air Force’s Strategic Air Command.
American Legion Post #1 will Post the Colors, play Taps and conduct a rifle salute. Each veteran will receive a patriotic gift and spouses of veterans will receive red, white and blue flowers courtesy of Honor and Remember Nebraska Chapter.

Pentecost Sunday

Feast commemorating the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles. It takes its name from the fact that it comes about fifty days after Easter. The name was originally given to the Jewish Feast of Weeks, which fell on the fiftieth day after Passover, when the first fruits of the corn harvest were offered to the Lord (Deuteronomy 16:9), and later on the giving of the law to Moses was celebrated. In the early Church, Pentecost meant the whole period from Easter to Pentecost Sunday, during which no fasting was allowed, prayer was only made standing, and Alleluia was sung more often.

Trinity Sunday

The first Sunday after Pentecost. Its origins go back to the Arian heresy, when an office with canticle, responses, preface, and hymns was composed by the Fathers and recited on Sundays. Bishop Stephen of Liège (903-20) wrote an office of the Holy Trinity that in some places was recited on the Sunday after Pentecost, and elsewhere on the last Sunday before Advent. St. Thomas à Becket (1118-70), consecrated Archbishop of Canterbury on the Sunday following Pentecost, obtained for England the privilege of a special feast to honor the Trinity on that day. Pope John XXII (reigned 1316-34) extended the feast to the universal Church.

Corpus Christi

The Feast of the Blessed Sacrament, established in 1246 by Bishop Robert de Thorote of Liège, at the suggestion of St. Juliana of Mont Cornillon (1192-1258). Its observance was extended to the Universal Church by Pope Urban IV in 1264. The office for the day was composed by St. Thomas Aquinas, and the customary procession was approved by Popes Martin V and Eugene IV. Now celebrated as the solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ on the first Thursday (or Sunday) after the feast of the Holy Trinity.

Corpus Christi Procession

2:30pm - 5:00pm
The annual Eucharistic Procession, on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi, will begin in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 2:30 pm and end with final Benediction in St. Peter Church at approximately 5:00 pm. An ice cream reception will be held in the St. Peter Parish Hall after final Benediction. Those who received the Sacraments of First Holy Communion or Confirmation this year or last year are invited to wear their special attire.

Sacred Heart of Jesus

The physical Heart of Christ as the principal sign and symbol of the threefold love with which he loves his eternal Father and all mankind. It is, therefore, a symbol of the divine love he shares with the Father and the Holy Spirit but that he, the Word made flesh, alone manifests through a weak and perishable body, since “in Him dwells the fullness of the Godhead bodily” (Colossians 2:9). It is, besides, the symbol of that burning love which, infused into his soul, enriches the human will of Christ and enlightens and governs its acts by the most perfect knowledge derived both from the beatific vision and that which is directly infused. And finally it is the symbol also of sensible love, since the body of Christ possesses full powers of feeling and perception, in fact more so than any other human body (Pope Pius XII, Haurietis Aquas, II, 55-57).
