Superintendent named for Catholic schools

April 16, 2020 (Omaha, NE) – Assistant superintendent Vickie Kauffold will be the next superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Archdiocese of Omaha, effective July 1.

Kauffold is replacing Dr. Michael Ashton, who earlier this year announced his resignation.

“I’m grateful for Vickie’s leadership as assistant superintendent, and I am confident in her ability to serve educators, students, and parents in this new role,” said Archbishop George Lucas.

Kauffold has education degrees from Doane College and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. She has over 20 years of administrative experience and 12 years in the classroom. She was an educator in the Diocese of Lincoln for 11 years.

“Vickie brings experience and unwavering passion for Catholic education and its important contribution to the Church and civic society,” Ashton said.

Kauffold started with the Catholic Schools Office in 2016 as facilitator of curriculum and assessments.

“It is an incredible honor to serve schools in this role,” Kauffold said. “I look forward to collaborating with leaders around the archdiocese.”

The Catholic Schools Office also announced the departure of Blended Learning Coordinator Greg Monroe. He is leaving to become superintendent of Catholic Schools in the Diocese of Charlotte.

Monroe directed the archdiocese’s academic initiative that combines face-to-face teaching with online instruction. He helped a number of schools customize learning opportunities to meet student needs.

“Greg has advanced the blended learning initiative further than we could have imagined during his time here,” Ashton said. “The Diocese of Charlotte will benefit greatly from his leadership and vision for Catholic education.”
