My name is Juan José González Lara. I am twenty years old and just competed my third year of philosophy at Conception Seminary College.
I was born in La Piedad Michoacán, Mexico, and lived in Huáscato, Jalisco until I was fourteen years old. When I was eleven years old, I entered the Minor Seminary of the Diocese of San Juan de Los Lagos in Jalisco. I studied there for two and a half years. In November 2010, my family came to the United States and settled in Omaha, Nebraska. I am a 2014 graduate of Omaha South High School. Days before my high school graduation, I was diagnosed with stage-three cancer (lymphoma). In May 2014, I had the cancer removed from my underarm and endured six months of chemotherapy treatment. After the treatment, I was declared cancer-free.
In January 2015, I applied and was accepted to study for the Archdiocese of Omaha at Conception Seminary College. I believe God started calling me since my early years. As a kid, instead of having toys, I would rather chose to play with statues of saints, the Virgin Mary, and Jesus. I always remember playing to be a priest, and even as a child playing a priest celebrating “Mass”. The call to discern the Holy Priesthood has been confirmed in various occasions, but I feel in my heart that God is calling me to be at the seminary.
I encourage all those young man who feel the call to discern the vocation to the Priesthood to do so. Just let Jesus do his work, he knows how to do it. -Juan Jose
