12:00pm - 8:00pm
It’s time for the Original South O festival! Sts. Peter & Paul will continue its 108-year tradition of celebrating summer by hosting its annual ethnic festival, “The Greatest Festival in Town.”

During its first century, this event grew to be one of the largest of the local church festivals, and the tradition continues into its second century. Sts. Peter & Paul Parish will launch the city’s oldest, largest, and longest-running annual church festival on Sunday, August 3, from noon - 8:00 p.m. on the parish grounds at 36th & “X” Street, Omaha, NE.

A single drawing for $5,000, a second prize of $500, and additional $100 prizes headline Omaha’s greatest summer church festival with continuous live music, providing an entire day of live entertainment. Other drawings include handmade quilts and afghans, meat raffles, “pickles,” along with numerous rides, games and events for children and the entire family.

Everyone is invited to bring hearty appetites to savor delicious ethnic foods, including Sts. Peter & Paul’s famous “sarma” (cabbage rolls), homemade Italian sausage and peppers, Polish sausage, BBQ lamb on a spit, tacos, and desserts from every corner of the world!

Spend the Month of August in the Gospel of Matthew!

10:00am
The Gospel readings at Saturday Masses this August invite us into a deeper encounter with Christ through courage, humility, and faithful stewardship.

We invite you to join us for Mass at 10 AM each Saturday this August at Holy Family Shrine — a time to reflect, to be renewed, and to receive the grace to live out your calling with trust and joy. Whether you’re never been to the Shrine or come every week, you are welcome here.

We begin with the martyrdom of John the Baptist (Mt 14:1–12), a witness to truth even in the face of death. We see Jesus heal a boy tormented by a demon and teach that even mustard-seed-sized faith can move mountains (Mt 17:14–20). He calls us to welcome the littlest among us with open hearts (Mt 19:13–15) and warns against pride, reminding us that true greatness is found in humility and service (Mt 23:1–12). In the Parable of the Talents (Mt 25:14–30), we’re challenged to make good use of the gifts God has entrusted to us, not bury them in fear or complacency.

Each of these readings carries a timely message: speak truth with courage, believe with bold faith, serve with humility, and invest your life generously in the work of God's Kingdom. At the Holy Family Shrine, these Gospel lessons resonate deeply amid the quiet beauty of nature and sacred space.

The Psalms: Our Daily Nourishment

6:00pm
The Psalms: Our Daily Nourishment, August 21 - 24, retreat at Saint Benedict Center, Schuyler, with Brother Tobias Dammert, OSB.

We may prefer sweet baked goods on a daily basis. However, rye bread, sourdough and other choices are the more stable nourishment. We need to chew and digest! The same is true when we pray the Psalms. We do not pick and choose. In this retreat we will look at a selection of Psalms and together find out the message that applies to our daily life.  The journey may include the question, “How long Lord?” (Ps. 13) and eventually leads to “Praise the Lord in the sanctuary” (Ps. 150).

Brother Tobias, a professed monk of 50 years, serves as development director of the Benedictine Mission House and liturgist of Christ the King Priory. He holds a certificate in spiritual direction from Benedictine Peace Center in Yankton, South Dakota.

Thursday, 6:00 p.m., to Sunday after lunch.  Register now at www.StBenedictCenter.com or call (402) 352-8819.

Program fee: $80

Rooms per person, per night: single $52, double $43 (plus tax)

Meals: breakfast $9, lunch $13.30, supper $12.30 (plus tax)
