Spire Chamber Ensemble Concert

7:00pm - 9:00pm
The Spire Chamber Ensemble, under the baton of Founder and Artistic Director Ben A. Spaulding, will perform the Bach Mass in B Minor.
Spire’s repertoire ranges from Baroque and Classical works with period instruments to work by contemporary composers.  This will be a world-class treat for music lovers – not to be missed.
Now in their 10th season, Spire is one of the preeminent choral-orchestral chamber ensembles in the United States. The virtuoso choir and orchestra of distinctive solo artists are committed to the highest level of ensemble performance. These musicians travel to Kansas City to perform together, providing audiences with a rare level of choral music-making found elsewhere in the country. The Spire Baroque Orchestra features the finest historical players and joins these world-class singers for concerts.
Johann Sebastian Bach was the consummate master of polyphony or ‘many voices’ — this serves as the catalyst for all my own musical exploration. Bach’s extraordinary imagination in his B Minor Mass provides inspiration and a framework for the most remarkable musical allegory of human existence – its pain, aspiration, and promises.
An active composer, Spaulding is gaining a national reputation for excellence in choral performances. He is director of Music and the Arts at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mission, KS, where he has built a prestigious concert series and arts programs in the Kansas City area.

Wherever You Are I Am

9:30am (03/21) - 1:00pm (03/22)
Sr. Marie Micheletto is presenting Wherever You Are I Am.  In so many ways, at so many times in life’s journey, we are reminded of the Divine Presence always with us. Lent can be a time for ‘re-membering’ these past ‘God Moments:’ for noticing the daily encounters in the present; for embracing the promise and the call of the Divine; for believing in God’s unconditional love for each and all, for gratitude that Nothing is wasted and Everything counts. It all makes a difference. It all goes better when we do it together…. Prayer, input, quiet time, sharing.

Sober and Merciful: Saint Benedict’s Journey of Mindfulness

7:30pm (03/27) - 1:00pm (03/29)
Father Mauritius Wilde, OSB is leading this retreat.  Saint Benedict suggests a way on which we will be able to let go of our “ego” – at least a little bit – and become open to the fullness of life. What he recommends to the Abbot of the monastery, is helpful for all: Sobriety not only of the stomach, but as a basic attitude of mindfulness. How can we courageously let go of thoughts, desires, and emotions, in order to face our own truth? How can we accept the reality of ourselves and become merciful to others? This retreat is an invitation to discover what God has in store for us every day.
