Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2017-2018 General Chairs
Dr. Mary and Dr. David Lux – Sacred Heart Parish, Norfolk
Mary and David Lux have been members of Sacred Heart Parish in Norfolk for more than 20 years and are actively involved in parish ministry. They are committed to the work of the archdiocese serving as members of the Archbishop’s Committee for Development since 2011, the Serra Club and now the Annual Appeal.
“If the Archbishop thinks we would be helpful, then we feel it’s a call from Jesus,” said Mary. “We think that it’s important that we support our Church financially because of the way it serves us,” she said.
Mary, a pathologist by training, is a stay-at-home mom. The couple has four children. She is president of the Music Booster Club and volunteers in Sacred Heart’s parish and school offices. She was past president of the Altar Society. She also serves as president of the Omaha Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women and is a member of the Northeast Nebraska Advancement Committee for Spirit Catholic Radio.
Dave is a busy family practitioner with Norfolk Medical Group. He volunteers as a religious formation teacher at Sacred Heart and as an adult leader for its Confirmation Camp. He is a team member of Christians Encounter Christ and participates in a prayer group as well as weekly adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. In addition, Dave has organized an evangelization group for young adult men in the parish.
Tom and Cheri Hassenstab – St. Stephen the Martyr, Omaha
Cheri and Tom Hassenstab are members of St. Stephen the Martyr Parish. They have five children – three still at home – and are dedicated to serving their parish and the archdiocese. “We believe in the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal and want to make other’s aware of the important role the appeal plays in our daily lives. We prayed about it and we were led to say ‘yes,’” said Cheri.
Cheri completed the Rite of Christian Initiation in Adults (RCIA) program nearly 20 years ago. She is a busy stay-at-home mom but still finds time to volunteer at both the parish and school. She has coordinated St. Stephen’s Baptismal ministry for 16 years, overseeing scheduling for facilitators and teaching classes if needed.
Tom is president and CEO of Worldview, LTD, in Omaha. He is a member of St. Stephen’s stewardship and finance councils, a past member of its parish council, an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and a track coach at the school.

January – Catholic Schools Office
The Catholic Schools Office supports more than 1,500 teachers and nearly 20,000 students in 53 Catholic elementary and 17 Catholic secondary schools. Let us pray that the archdiocesan Catholic Schools Office may ensure that our Catholic schools are academically excellent, genuinely Catholic and safe and secure environments for our children to build a close relationship with God.
December – Office of Evangelization and Catechesis
The Office of Evangelization and Catechesis provides faith formation resources for children, youth and adults, as well as all who seek to join the Catholic Church through the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Let us pray that the archdiocesan Office of Evangelization and Catechesis may bring the good news to children, youth and adults and help them come closer to God and his love.
November – Vocations Office
The archdiocesan Vocations Office supports men and women as they discern God’s call for them. Let us pray that the Vocations Office may inspire young men and women throughout our archdiocese to deepen their relationship with Christ and become His disciples.
October – Center for Family Life Formation
The archdiocesan Center for Family Life Formation devotes its time to preparing couples for marriage, supporting separated or divorced Catholics, helping those who grieve after the death of a loved one and supporting families in many other ways. Let us pray that the Center for Family Life Formation may address the needs of today’s families and help them through the challenges and joys of life.
September – Archbishop’s Annual Appeal
The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal provides funding for the archdiocesan ministries that help support members of the Church and the larger community. Let us pray that God will bless our participation in and grant the success of the Appeal as we receive the gift and continue to build God’s kingdom in northeast Nebraska.
