Promoting Vocations

How Does TOTUS TUUS Promote Vocations to the Priesthood and Religious Life?

In General:

1. By fostering a lived Christian life among the teachers we foster vocations to the priesthood and religious life. If a person does not live a Christian life then he or she would never want to give his or her life to Jesus Christ and the Church. We foster the living of our Faith through:

a.

A consistent prayer life based on the Sacraments of the Church, Liturgy of the Hours, Marian devotion, and silent contemplative prayer.

b.

Teaching them the basics of the Faith and where to go to learn more.

c.

Providing them with an opportunity to "spend themselves for Christ in service of the Gospel" and thus giving them the skills of evangelizing and passing on the faith.

2. We promote the living of a Christian life among the young people whom we serve and thus promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life. We do this by placing the witness of enthusiastic and faith-filled college students and seminarians in contact with young people and through:

a.

Extensive catechesis on the faith of the Church.

b.

The opportunity to encounter Jesus Christ in the Sacraments of the Church, most especially in the daily celebration of the Eucharist.

In Specific:

1. We promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life among our teachers by asking them to engage in an active discernment of their vocation. We do this by:

a.

Having all the teachers sign a "covenant" promising to "actively" discern their vocation (at the same time they abstain from dating for the duration of the program)

b.

Encouraging them to read about these vocations and giving the books to them.

c.

Teaching them the principles of the theology of vocation, priesthood, religious life and marriage during their training requiring them to teach these same principles to elementary and secondary school children putting them into contact with priests and seminarians on a regular basis and religious on an occasional basis.

2. We promote vocations to the priesthood and religious life among the young people whom we serve by:

a.

Having classes devoted specifically to the Church's teaching on vocation, priesthood, religious life and marriage.

b.

Personally witnessing to them about our own vocational decisions and struggles.

c.

Putting them in contact with seminarians and priests on a regular basis.
