Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2017-2018 General Chairs
Dr. Mary and Dr. David Lux – Sacred Heart Parish, Norfolk
Mary and David Lux have been members of Sacred Heart Parish in Norfolk for more than 20 years and are actively involved in parish ministry. They are committed to the work of the archdiocese serving as members of the Archbishop’s Committee for Development since 2011, the Serra Club and now the Annual Appeal.
“If the Archbishop thinks we would be helpful, then we feel it’s a call from Jesus,” said Mary. “We think that it’s important that we support our Church financially because of the way it serves us,” she said.
Mary, a pathologist by training, is a stay-at-home mom. The couple has four children. She is president of the Music Booster Club and volunteers in Sacred Heart’s parish and school offices. She was past president of the Altar Society. She also serves as president of the Omaha Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women and is a member of the Northeast Nebraska Advancement Committee for Spirit Catholic Radio.
Dave is a busy family practitioner with Norfolk Medical Group. He volunteers as a religious formation teacher at Sacred Heart and as an adult leader for its Confirmation Camp. He is a team member of Christians Encounter Christ and participates in a prayer group as well as weekly adoration of the Blessed Sacrament. Tom and Cheri Hassenstab – St. Stephen the Martyr, Omaha
Cheri and Tom Hassenstab are members of St. Stephen the Martyr Parish. They have five children – three still at home – and are dedicated to serving their parish and the archdiocese. “We believe in the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal and want to make other’s aware of the important role the appeal plays in our daily lives. We prayed about it and we were led to say ‘yes,’” said Cheri.
Cheri completed the Rite of Christian Initiation in Adults (RCIA) program nearly 20 years ago. She is a busy stay-at-home mom but still finds time to volunteer at both the parish and school. She has coordinated St. Stephen’s Baptismal ministry for 16 years, overseeing scheduling for facilitators and teaching classes if needed.
