The Archdiocese of Omaha is the name of a very, very large family. We are a family of Catholics, along with our friends and loved ones. Each one of us has a personal story of faith. Some of these stories are simple; others are quite complex. All of them are part of our story of faith in the hundreds of neighborhoods in our archdiocese.
The Church, Pope Francis writes, “is the family of families” (The Joy of Love, 87). The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is one way we come together as a family of Catholics in northeast Nebraska, to gather the resources necessary to help others. Through the generosity of people across the archdiocese, our parishes, schools and ministries have the resources necessary to continue nurturing our extended spiritual family.
With a gift to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal, you ensure that our parishes and schools remain vibrant. You support seminarians formed in the priesthood of Jesus Christ. You help young couples prepare for the joys and challenges of marriage. Because of you, teachers, lay catechists, priests and deacons receive continuing education. Your gift strengthens youth ministry programs, adult faith formation outreach and RCIA classes throughout the archdiocese.
The goal of the 2016-2017 Archbishop’s Annual Appeal is $3.5 million. Your generosity enlivens every facet of parish life. A gift to the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal ensures that the sacramental life of the church reaches more people and the message of the Gospel touches more hearts.
Archbishop’s Annual Appeal 2016-2017 General Chairs
Joanne and Tom Kerins
Joanne and Tom Kerins have long recognized the importance of giving back as a matter of faith and see their role as General Chairs of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal as another opportunity to be of service to the archdiocese and their community.
“Joanne and I accepted the invitation to serve as the general chairs of the Annual Appeal because we wanted to spread the word about all of the great programs the archdiocese is engaged in,” said Tom. “We’ve long felt that these programs are, unfortunately, the ‘best kept secret in Omaha.”
Suzanne and Jim Pillen
As owners of Pillen Family Farms, a Nebraska-based family owned farming operation in Columbus, Jim and Suzanne Pillen’s values are at the forefront of all aspects of their lives including their business. The company prides itself on treating others with respect, offering a helping hand and giving back to their community. This attitude is more than a business strategy but comes from their deep commitment to their faith, family and community.
Jim said that their involvement in the Archdiocese of Omaha’s Ignite the Faith capital campaign helped them to understand more fully how the archdiocese supports its parishes throughout the 23-county area. “We thought it was neat to see how the parishes came together to help the archdiocese and in turn, the archdiocese gives back to the parishes,” he said. “The more fully we can help others understand the importance of the Annual Appeal and how it helps all the parishes in the archdiocese the better off our parishes will be.”

Let us pray that the Center for Family Life Formation may address the needs of today’s families and help them through the challenges and joys of life.
The Archbishop’s Annual Appeal provides funding for the archdiocesan ministries that help support members of the Church and the larger community. Let us pray that God will bless our participation in and grant the success of the Appeal as we receive the gift and continue to build God’s kingdom in northeast Nebraska.
